Hey, Roxy, I am a clinical herbalist, in practice for nearly 17 years now. I have a company called Desert Bloom Herbs, down in Silver City, NM. My website is: http://www.desertbloomherbs.com I wanted to let you know that it isn't expensive to remedy high blood pressure with herbs. What is expensive (to both your pocket book and your health), is eating the Standard American Diet (S.A.D.). I have no idea about your daily dietary patterns, but if one looks carefully, they can see how refined foods, added sodium and sugar, and poorly-processed oils, which are integrated into the food supply, wreak havoc on the cardiovascular system over time. So... these are the additional things which are much more difficult to eliminate from the diet, which DO need to be addressed by anyone with high blood pressure or cardiovascular disease. High blood pressure generally has 3 cause categories, which are: 1).Stress (which requires one to address and correct this as much as possible in ones' life... and to take relaxing, nervine herbs, such as Chamomile, Oats, Skullcap and Passionflower). I have a page on medicinal teas in the products part of the website. One of our teas is called "Blood Pressure Tonic Tea". 2.) Another large cause of high blood pressure is taking in too much sodium form dietary sources (which requires one to read labels carefully ... but even more than this... to work hard to get back to the basics of dietarily-induced health... by avoiding packaged refined foods, and pre-cooked packaged foods.) Learning how to use the basic foods to cook for ourselves .... with grains, beans, raw and cooked vegetables (organic only), and moving towards a diet low in animal products and high in grains, fruits, cooked and raw vegetables, and raw nuts. Alternative protein sources from plants, such as tempeh (multi-grain)are nearly as high in protein as meat, but do not have the animal fat contained in all animal products. Additionally, common herbs, which are natural diuretics (Dandelion leaf and root, celery seed (or the fresh stalks), Burdock root, and Asparagus are all excellent choices as sodium-reducing diuretics. Many people feel that they do not have enough time too cook, or just don't know how. These are illusions, since in reality, there are a million sources for recipes, and finding a friend to help get you onto basics ... or finding a person from your community with cooking skills they'd like to share can be a LOT of fun, as you gain skill and confidence in your abilities to create delicious and nutritious meals from scratch, using all whole organic foods. 3). The other main cause of high blood pressure is a lack of good physical condition. It is a fact that there are now more obese and overweight Americans (including children), than ever before. If you are in this category, then it is truly imperative that a whole foods diet is strictly followed, and that the introduction of exercise (as can be safely tolerated), is introduced and maintained. Cardiovascular health can also be increased with the use of fresh garlic in cooking, onions,(support anti-oxident activities)..., cayenne, ginger (support good blood circulation). In reality, if you consider the money you will save by using only whole foods and preparing meals yourself... along with the health benefits you will realize by eating this way, you will be saving a LOT of money by merely changing some of the patterns in your diet and lifestyle... and supplementing these changes with regular (but not necessarily expensive) herbs... mostly as teas, but perhaps also using some simple or compounded extracts. I'm hoping this helps you make some informed decisions. Don't get ripped off by "herbal marketeers" who promote expensive products. |
